Another tremendous race by Bella at Wolverhampton on Friday finishing 2nd after leading the race and only being headed well inside the final furlong.
Alan has not declared her to run in the 5:20pm at Wolverhampton on Monday 7th January, as he still considers her a big baby with a lot more physical development to come, and feels too much too soon may alter her attitude to racing. Alan has also reported that Seb Sanders contacted him on Saturday, after further viewing the race, and suggested to Alan that we maintain front running tactics in similar races over a mile. Alan was considering dropping her in behind in future races over a similar distance, but Seb believes that if he had opened up a greater early lead in Fridays race, and he is sure that Bella could have done that, she would not have been caught. When the eventual winner passed her, she went again with the 3rd placed horse being held. Seb also said Bella had stepped up considerably from her previous race at Kempton in December, and it was good to see that she was acting well on the faster polytrack surface, when her action suggested she would be better suited to more give. Alan and Seb have both said we have the makings of a very good middle distance filly and Seb is looking forward to further races with her. The official rating of the winner of Bellas race, Flying Tempo, was 52 and completed the race in 1min 50.18 sec. Interestingly Charlcot a 5yo, and the winner of race three over the same distance, won in identical time but had an official rating of 64. Charlcot was carrying 9st 6lb and Flying Tempo and Bella 9st 4lb and 9st 3lb respectively.
